Grande Ronde Hospital Helps Union County Thrive

For Grande Ronde Hospital in Union County, learning the results of the community's most recent Community Health Needs Assessment provided new opportunities in 2017 to help the community thrive. The two biggest areas of need: access to mental health services and a prevalence of chronic illness. Using these learnings, Grande Ronde employees and the community volunteers worked together to manage Grande Ronde's Community Benefit Program made those the top issues to tackle in 2017. Grande Ronde stepped up to create a healthier community by engaging community partners, promoting education and screening programs, and by increasing awareness of chronic illness management.

A few highlights from Grande Ronde's Community Benefit Program from the past year:

From July - September 2017, members of the Grande Ronde Therapy & Sports Medicine team offered a “personal trainer” experience via their "Fit in 5" program with five free classes were offered to the community every other week. Approximately 110 people of all fitness levels took advantage of these classes to improve their fitness levels enough to complete a 5K run or walk. Participants who completed four of the five classes had their registration fee waived for the 18th Annual Grande Ronde Rehab Run held that September.

In late summer 2016, GRH clinic staff provided 215 free sports physicals to student athletes from all communities across Union County. Clinic staff also supported the Central Elementary School’s proposal to us for a healthy snacks program. Funding provided approximately 385 students with fresh fruits and veggies three times a week from February through June of 2017.

Grande Ronde also supported wellness-centered community partnerships for wellness including participation in Central Elementary School’s Third Grade Healthy Lifestyle Exercise Program in October 2016. Grande Ronde provided pedometers for all children in the program, while our Therapy & Sports Medicine staff guided children through the fun exercise and play.
