The staffing crisis has led to two National Guard deployments to Oregon hospitals. This is the story of the first mission, during the Delta surge. Their selfless dedication to serving our communities is Oregon at is best. They provided essential support and a morale boost when exhausted staffs needed it most.
Hundreds of volunteers have made the effort possible, bringing an infectious positive energy to the proceedings. “The volunteers, the fact that they were giving so much time and effort and energy to be there, that was inspiring,” said Chris Laman, head of the county’s vaccine task force. “We could not have done it without them.”
When hospitals were asked to create COVID vaccine programs, they rose to the task by working together and with partners in the community. The results have brought hope to those who have received their doses.
